This book takes you on a journey
What is truly exceptional about this book, and author is her delivery. Her ability to teach a concept in a clear and concise way is exceptional. Easy to interpret and and apply the years of personal and professional experience she shares here. I will highly recommend to my clients, and personal family members alike.

Knowing when and how to unpack your backpack... liberating.
There are many books that will talk about digging into your emotions, your views and your personal mind frame and how our experiences impact the way that we think but very few books actually give you the tools to understand when and how to deal with your backpack. This book shares candid accounts of personal experience, loss hardship, and triumph, Holly creates a powerful platform to share the notion of the backpack. What you choose to put in your backpack what you choose to take out what you choose to revisit and what you should never take from somebody else and put in your own backpack are all eye opening notions of the way we experience life and ourselves.
Highly recommend pick it up today.

My new mantra! Personal, helpful advice that applies to anyone looking to improve their well-being.
Holly’s approach has been so helpful and allowed me to decide what I want to put my time and energy into by deciding what belongs to me and what belongs to others. Carry Your Own Backpack provides tools that are broad enough to apply to my relationships, work-life, and self, but detailed enough to tackle specific situations that trouble me. My favorite line is “When you have learned what past mistakes have taught you, remove them.”

I only wished I had this book 30 yrs ago, to better understand the most beneficial backpack concept!
Holly has opened up and shared her personal life story along with her professional clinical arsenal of tools, providing both personal insights and cognitive behavioral tools. If any subset of these tools are applied and or learned, you will be much better enabled for this life’s journey! After reading this, I am applying the backpack concept within my interrelations and using other tools to work through challenges and grief. Talking about the backpack concept with your spouse, while parenting young adults can be daunting but oh so enlightening!

Practical Advise! You can change!
Holly literally packs so many helpful tools and resources into this book - I loved it!!! I LOVE Holly's analogy of the backpack - it is a simple reminder and I find myself using it daily! "Carry Your Own Back Pack" flows so well and the reader is able to journal along side reading (don't worry, Holly has many tips for journaling if it's not your thing)! This book is a reminder you CAN change your habits! You can "let go of the fear of disappointing others," and you can "speak honestly with love!" One of my favorite quotes from Holly is "being healthy is about learning, not about being right or being in charge." This book refreshed some concepts and renewed my spirit to live each day to the fullest and be the best version of myself! Thank you Holly for your encouragement, practical advise and honesty!!!

Great for personal and professional growth!
The author is so authentic, vulnerable and real. Her insight into mental health in the current times is not one size fits all, so that was refreshing! She values the diversity of lives and offers so many examples and tools to reach your best self. I bought it for my own personal growth but realized quickly that her tools were inspiring for my professional growth as well. She also added gentle, loving spiritual insight to the connection of mental health and a relationship with God. Truly beautifully written!
Simple Applications to Everyday Interactions
The concepts in the book are practical and simplistic. Holly does not overwhelm with wholesale changes needed or overhauls of your mindset. It provides tools and thoughts to assist you focus on you. A great resource for growth and understanding.

Wonderful!!!
This book should be a staple in everyone’s home. Holly is able to simplify our complicated emotions and choices. She helps the reader breakdown how to live a happy and emotionally stable life, helping the reader pack their own “backpack” with tools and choices. She exposes her own childhood trauma, taking the reader through her own life showing how she packed her own backpack to be her own best self. Holly is an experienced and gifted psychotherapist/life coach and it’s obvious that Holly selflessly wrote this book to help as many people as possible to become their best self. The best self help book I have ever read!

Raw, real and practical!
The author helps her readers navigate their life journeys by providing such practical tools. By exposing her own stories and vulnerabilities, she added the perfect amount of personal parallels to the clinical and practical aspects of her philosophies, which in turn brought the book right down to the reader’s level. Highly recommend!

These tools are important and have shaped my life.
Carry Your Own Backpack is a practical guide filled with useful and powerful tools for regulating emotions, managing stress, redirecting negative self-talk, staying aligned with your personal values, and building healthy boundaries in relationships. The exercises the author has laid out are easy to understand and even easier to put into daily practice. Her story and the courage it took to be so vulnerable are admirable, and made her someone I want to continue learning from. Her joyful perspective, unwavering faith, optimism, and outlook on the events and seasons that shaped her are inspiring. Her own hurts and traumas, that she has carried in her backpack, have transformed her into a light that shines on others, helping them find (and love) their best self. "Not my backpack" has become a permanent phrase of my vernacular, and I share these lessons and this book with everyone I care about. Holly's teachings have changed my life for the better. I'm beyond grateful for this book!
